John McCain’s former Chief of Staff, Mark Salter, has a column on AmericanSpeakOn.org titled “Double Standards” that is worth a read and merits a response, as I too, have been disappointed by the “race to the bottom” in our current political environment.

There appears to be a substantial difference between the protests (and lack of respect) for President Bush vs. President Obama. Obama’s predecessor had a 90%+ approval rating and overwhelming bi-partisan support as the country rallied around Bush following the September 11 attacks. We later learned that the Bush-Cheney administration abused their powers by attacking a country that did not have WMDs and wasn’t responsible for 9/11, supporting torture, unconstitutional wiretapping, and other actions.

Obama is a completely different story: The “conservatives” NEVER gave him a chance. There have been efforts to undermine his credibility since the moment he won the election — unfortunately, some in this country simply don’t believe an African-American should be president.

Thus, I do not think you can equate what happened with Bush to the current backlash toward Obama. As Salter knows, first-hand, from the whispering campaign in South Carolina that doomed John McCain’s Presidential run in 2000, the extremist fringes in the Republican Party will resort to tactics that even the most radical Democrats wouldn’t touch. As a McCain ‘00 supporter, I would argue that with his competent leadership in the White House, the state of politics and our broader culture would not have coarsened to the degree it has. It’s unimaginable to think of how much better state McCain would have left the country in!

But as proof of the depths that our political system has gone, American Hero John McCain cynically (or desperately) attached an unqualified laughing stock of a candidate as his running mate to be a heart-beat away from the Presidency.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

I’ve said for the past 18 months or so that John McCain, American Hero who ran for President in 2000, is a very different man than the John McCain who ran for President in 2008. His nomination of Sarah Palin as VP candidate was the last straw for me to respect him as a “straight shooter” and today, he continued his extremist-pandering partisan ways by announcing his intent to vote against the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court.

I think I’ve uncovered the Republicans secret strategy regarding Demographic trends in the United States:

Republican Party Strategy on US Demographic Trends

Let’s see how the 29.2% of Arizona’s population who happen to be Hispanic/Latino feel about McCain’s decision when it’s re-election time next year.

Over the years, I’ve been disappointed by your unabashed support as the Republican Party has shifted to the extreme right on social issues while losing any semblance of credibility on fiscal matters. And it’s been disheartening to hear intelligent Republicans such as you with unwavering defense of Bush’s administration despite the numerous failures. But it’s your ongoing support of Sarah Palin that led me to send this note to you. I find your cheerleading for Palin embarrassing, irresponsible and desperate. She is vastly, vastly unqualified to be President of the United States (or Vice President for that matter), and you absolutely know it. And she’s a sure-fire pick to continue the Republican Party’s spiral into oblivion.

The country is still reeling from the effects of a President who lacked the intellectual curiosity to deal with complicated issues. George W. Bush did irreparable harm to the Republican Party and you’re on the sidelines encouraging the country to set the bar even lower. Meanwhile, the Party has been reduced to a regional, minority voice with diminishing influence and approval ratings plunging.

The Republican voices whispering in your ear are insulating you from reality. Look at Party events and rallies outside of the Midwest and deep south and count the number of:
- brown, black and yellow people in attendance;
- younger voters, 35 years old and under compared to folks 60 and older;
- college educated participants;
- individuals who live in cities and other densely-populated areas;
- people who have less than $80,000 of annual household income; and
- gays and lesbians.

I urge you to use your influence to encourage Party leads to listen to guys like Mike Murphy – he nailed it today in his op-ed in the NY Daily News — and Joe Scarborough who understand the “modernization” of conservatism that must go on for the party to rebound from its regional minority status, and take a SERIOUS look at expanding the tent. Your first move is stop pandering to the fringe religious and pro-gun extremists – the guns, God and gays voters have become more than just “the base”, they have become the entire party! And enough is enough with this Sarah Palin defense – please find a competent horse to back. There are highly-capable, intelligent, accomplished and VIABLE conservatives who deserve attention!

I’ve been surprised and disappointed by many conservative pundits’ unabashed support as the Republican Party has shifted to the extreme right on social issues while losing any semblance of credibility on fiscal matters. It’s been disheartening to hear intelligent Republicans defending Bush’s administration, but it’s the ongoing support of Sarah Palin that is particularly puzzling. I find the cheerleading for Palin by conservatives both embarrassing and desperate. She is vastly, vastly unqualified to be President of the United States (or Vice President for that matter), and we all absolutely know it.

So, I’ve been thinking about how to react to Sarah Palin’s stunning news that she’s not only not going to run for re-election as Alaska’s Governor, but she’s resigning at the end of the month. I think it’s time we get an apology from the Republican Party and conservative pundits who supported her as a credible candidate for Vice President. Her latest move shows the poor judgment and instability the vocal critics were concerned about.

The country is still reeling from the effects of a President who lacked the intellectual curiosity to deal with complicated issues. George W. Bush did irreparable harm to the Republican Party, yet we still have many conservatives perfectly content with setting the bar even lower. Meanwhile, the Party has been reduced to a regional, minority voice with diminishing influence and approval ratings spiraling.

I don’t know who is advising Republican leaders these days, but they’re either not delivering the truth or the folks in charge are delusional. Look at Party events and rallies outside of the Midwest and deep south and count the number of:
– brown, black and yellow people in attendance;
– younger voters, 35 years old and under compared to folks 60 and older;
– college educated participants;
– individuals who live in cities and other densely-populated areas;
– people who have less than $80,000 of annual household income; and
– gays and lesbians.

I urge Republicans who are committed to a strong 2-party system to encourage Party leads to listen to guys like Mike Murphy and Joe Scarborough who understand the “modernization” of conservatism that must go on for the party to rebound from its regional minority status, and take a SERIOUS look at expanding the tent. The first move is stop pandering to the fringe religious and pro-gun extremists – the “guns, God and gays” voters have become more than just “the base”, they have become the entire party!

They say that OakBrook is the community. This has been found to be quite close to the truth as this little town has acquired the reputation of being virtually free of crime. When it comes to paying of taxes they are lowest in the land with no property tax to speak of. Not to mention that the police system is also one of the best in the country. Why then, would people want the services of OakBrook Terrace lawyers in the first place?

Some Oak Brook Terrace lawyers do not confine their legal representative services to the arguments that take place in a court of law. They have other areas of activity that keep them busy such as drawing up employment contracts, business contracts, supervising and advising clients when it comes to transaction of real estate deals and so forth. So, considering the kind of place OakBrook is with people wanting to own land for residential purposes of to establish a business OakBrook Terrace lawyers are a busy lot – with the kind of reputation that most lawyers in other parts of the country would envy.

KSGA&D Law, as the firm has come to be known, has been dedicatedly providing many business establishments with expert legal counsel for over three decades. They have extended their services to the local municipalities as well as companies locally and internationally. Their office is located at Elmhurst, Dupage County, Illinois and have grown to acquire a reputation as the top Oak Brook Terrace lawyers around.

The founders of the firm are proud of the fact that clients continue to look to them for legal counsel even as the firm itself continues to grow and expand to cover a global sphere providing legal services to many a giant conglomerate. Even then they still give equal importance and time to their smaller clientele.

KSGA&D Law was founded on firm principles of honesty and dedication. They have adhered to these principles for the past thirty years that they have been providing unfailing service to their clients. Their dogged pursuit of nothing but the best outcome through legal practices is what has put them the top OakBrook lawyers.

The well-known debtor-creditor law has assumed the name ‘Asset protection’ in most part of the world and the United States included. It was a movement started by Barry Engle a Colorado attorney who is credited with the initiation of this set of statutory body and law to protect individuals from civil judgments. In Chicago, some of the best asset protection attorneys are employed at KSGA & D law, an Elmhurst based law firm.

Asset protection began as a stand-alone system in place in the mid 70’s, gained momentum in the 90’s, and finally gained a prominent place in the legal representation system as well as in the world of business by the year 2003. Businesses and individuals began giving some serious thought to asset protection planning and thus the demand for asset protection attorneys in Chicago began to grow.

It is vital for an attorney to have unfailing knowledge of asset management and property law if an asset protection attorney is to successfully represent his or her client. The people in and around Illinois have grown to trust the services of the team of KSGA & D Law when it comes to asset protection. The firm’s world of experience behind them dealing in real estate cases and representing a vast range of clientele is second to none.

KSGA & D Law’s range of clientele include local residents, government departments, municipalities and international businesses. Numerous individuals and companies have decided to establish branches and headquarters in Elmhurst, Illinois, which is home to some of the greatest consumer companies in the world.

One must be aware that there are many ways to protect assets today. The best technique suited for each case will depend on a few factors such as the timing of the claim, the intelligence and the aggressiveness of the creditor, the debtor’s adversity to risk; and the nature of the asset being protected. There are different techniques to protect different assets such as bank accounts, personal residences, rental accommodation and real estate to name a few.

So if you require the best asset protection attorneys Chicago has to offer, look into KSGA & D Law. You will get he best legal minds working as a team at the most reasonable cost as well as results.

I don’t typically wish bad things on anyone, but must admit I feel a degree of schadenfreude when political candidates, particularly ones who are visible bible-thumpers, have very public embarrassments as has recently happened with Nevada Senator John Ensign and South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.

Sanford’s announcement today that he was having an affair with an Argentinian woman comes on the heels of Ensign’s announcement that he was having a relationship with a woman outside of his marriage.

My point is less about these politicians’ bedroom activities as it is about their hypocrisy. Ensign is a member of Promise Keeper’s, a super-conservative Christian men’s group, and Sanford has actively campaigned on “Family Values”. These are the same type of politicians who claim to have the moral authority on who should and should not be allowed to get married.

The Republican Party is having an internal fight about what direction it wants to go. But the longer the party focuses on “family values” social conservatism rather than true conservative positions on fiscal and foreign policy matters, the more ground they’ll give up to the Democrats.

President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic justice of the US Supreme Court today, championing her as a compassionate, experienced judge whose against-the-odds life story is in true spirit of the American Dream.

My take is that “Judicial Activism” is in the eye of the beholder. Whether judges vote “For” or “Against” in a certain case, they’re “making” laws one way or another.

If you read about Sotomayor, you see she’s considered highly intelligent and has an incredibly inspirational life story. She’s far from a knee-jerk liberal and her positions on crime are likely to be more conservative of the Justice she’ll replace, David Souter.

The bottom line is that Obama won. And to the victor goes the spoils. POTUS gets to name Supremes – that’s just how it goes. Bush named conservatives like Alito and Roberts, Obama’s going to name left-leaning judges.

The rudderless Republicans, who’ve lost any semblance of credibility on fiscal issues and have moved to such an extreme position on social issues, will probably make a big Federal case out of Sotomayor’s nomination – all for naught, because she’s going to easily win approval – and further alienate Hispanics, who just happen to be the fastest-growing voting bloc. I’m sure Rush, Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilley, Larry Kudlow and other angry-sounding Republicans will be out in full force….The more they talk, the stronger they make the Democratic Party.

They just don’t seem to get it.
