I just signed up for a new Social News site called Skewz. The basic idea is that you can post articles etc. like Newsvine or Digg, but rather than voting simply for popularity, you can skew the article…in other words, when you vote you can vote for how far right or left it is.
At first I thought this was kind of a neat concept, but just before I started writing this post, another thought came to me: isn’t there something wrong with filtering news this way? Won’t this just lead to liberals reading the blue articles and conservatives reading the red articles? Maybe not–maybe it will cause people to read the opposing view. I’m not sure. I guess I just feel that each article should be judged based on its merits, not based on some political classification–even if that classification is based on user opinion.
News 2.0 is growing, and fast, so the more Social News sites the better. Skewz may prove to be a cool place to find information, and post articles. I’m not really sure just yet.
I’ll keep you posted, though. Of course.
